Decorating a home can be expensive or economical depending on how the task is undertaken. While expensive decor items will elevate the decoration cost, crafting the accent pieces yourself can save you money. If you decide to go with the latter, you will eventually realize how great your home looks with crafty home decor. Presented below are DIY craft projects you can consider making even if you don’t have good crafting skills:
1. Floating Bookshelf
A floating bookshelf is one of the most appealing decor ideas you can use for any room. It adds a magical touch to a wall while using the space effectively. Floating bookshelves appear as invisible bookshelves that can be created using L-shaped wall brackets. It works by concealing the bracket with a bottom hardcover book. The end result will be the pile of books stacked on the top of each other and floating in midair.
2. Hanging Blanket
Turn your old blankets to chic centerpieces and hang them using a ladder. Adorn your plain blankets by attaching extra-large tassels on the sides. You can then arrange these blankets on the ladder in such a way that tassels rest on varying heights. Use a single blanket or two if you want to hide the other side of the ladder. Further, you can add single-colored tassels or multicolored as per your choice.
3. Printed Dresser
If you have an old dresser, you can give it a whole new look by sticking a printed wallpaper on it. Alternatively, you can first stain the dresser in your favorite shade and then create a pattern over it. Try to choose color combos like orange-grey (grey for the dresser, orange for design), blue-golden, or black-white. Once you are done, place complementary home decor items over the dresser.
4. Feather Chandelier
A DIY feather chandelier will give a classy and exquisite look to your hall. Plus, it is easy to create and will require just 3-4 items. Take a paper lantern and stick feather trims on it, covering each layer. Glue a ribbon on the feathers going all the way to complete the feather circles. The last step will be just hanging that stunning lantern with a solid plastic or metal wire.
5. Mosaic CD Mirror
If you have old CDs that are no longer usable, you can use them to create a new look for your mirror. Simply smash the CDs into different-sized fragments and glue them on the mirror, covering the edges throughout. Glue the CD pieces in a random pattern and see how incredible the mirror looks. Just like the mirror, you can even create a mosaic door or cabinet.
6. DIY Wool Coasters
Wool coasters can be easily made with your old cardigans. Before using the cardigan, wash it in warm water. Once it is dry, use a large glass to cut circles on the fabric. You can also attach small tassels or lace trim on the sides. For something more captivating, set some glitter on the top. Something that your children and guests will love!
Tip: You can also create coasters with other materials like wood, metal, plastic, etc.
