When I was growing up, we had a “dollar tree” that was planted in the back yard. You could always find fresh cuttings, or odd pieces of wood in garage sales and thrift stores. The great thing about this particular type of plant was that it grew really well even if we did not do much with it. In fact, there were quite a few of us who would take turns removing dead leaves from it every so often. I loved having this fun project to do when we had the time.
Let Dry And Wood Material Sit In The Sun
Now, I am a mom of two young boys and have to admit, sometimes I forget about my old vegetable garden. It is nice to let dry and wood material sit in the sun for a bit, but I get so busy at work that I usually end up not being able to keep track of what I have done until I get home. This is when a scrapbook comes in handy. Once you let dry and wood material sit in the sun for a while, you can use your scrapbook to keep track of your efforts. Here are some great ideas for using your scrapbook to create your own dollar tree DIY home decor.
Have your kids help you make this one! We have a cute little boy who likes to draw and trace everything. He also likes to eat the seeds so if you buy some seeds from a local farm, you can use those instead of the pine. If you are using pine, you can always just use a natural colored pencil and trace the shape on the tree with a pencil.
Add Some Wooden Pebbles
Another fun thing you can do with your Dollar Tree DIY home decor is add some wooden pebbles or other small toys to the bottom of the tree. You can find small dollar store style storage boxes to put the toys in or any other container you have laying around the house. Make sure you label the box so your kids don’t open it on their own. Or, they will open up the whole box and poke at the toys inside.
When your kids are done playing with the toys on top of the tree, you can cover the whole thing in a pretty fabric, such as a clear plastic trash bag. Then you can simply tie it off at the base with another clear plastic bag. This way no one can get at the toys and the tree itself. Then you can use your very own homemade decor to add a few personal touches to your room.
Cut Out Squares Of Aluminum Foil
You could cut out squares of aluminum foil to place on the branches of your dollar tree to add more depth. Or, you can cut out squares of fabric and fold them together to form boas. They are easy to make and will add some pretty color to your home when used in conjunction with your summertime beach theme. Boas are easy to make too; all you need is a hot glue gun and some hot glue to put the fabric into shape.
As you can see, decorating a dollar tree doesn’t have to be difficult. If you’re looking for a fun and creative project to get you out of the house this holiday season, then a dollar tree is a great project to try. It’s easy to make, fun to play with, and costs very little. You’ll be able to enjoy this classic decorative item for many years to come.
